SEATTLE Books - Omar Reviews
Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet – Jamie Ford
An absolutely wonderful novel. Great story, well written based on real history. I also recommend Jamie Fords additional novels. A grand storyteller with characters you really care about.
Jitterbug Perfume – Tom Robbins
Simply put, a masterpiece, one of the great novels of the twentieth century. Everyone should experience the uniqueness of a Tom Robbins story, including Tom Robbins’ Still Life With Woodpecker.
Waxwings – Jonathan Raban
A very skilled writer who presents the mundane and tragic with a grand sense of humor. I love the way Jonathan makes this a true Seattle story by giving city details as he develops the characters and story. Jonathan’s use of elegant prose presenting everyday life is rather exceptional. Especially how he treats the mundane and tragic with a grand sense of humor. He also weaves in unique location and era details making turn of the century Seattle a character in itself.
Firefly Lane – Kristin Hannah
This is a novel written by a woman, about women, for women. That being said, the world would be a better place if all men would read a book like this. The way Kristin fills in historical context and specific Seattle references really helps the story. Though I did come across an occasional typo and one error of history, this writer is a real pro at this genre.
Broken For You - Stephanie Kallos
A really nice story, well-crafted for a debut novel. Probably most appreciated by women, youthful in particular, though I also enjoyed it.
Disclosure – Michael Crichton
Another good novel by the amazing Michael Crichton, with an interesting inside look at the 1990’s Seattle Tech world.
