PARIS
PARIS is unique in its neighborhood distinction that follows the twenty administrative districts created in 1859. There are a few neighborhood identities such as Vavin, Pigalle and Faubourg that cross arrondissement lines, but for the most part, residents and businesses identify with the arrondissement of their location. This Sketchbook is arranged by most of these districts: one through twelve, plus fourteen and eighteen. Each section has a story which relates to one or more of the sketches inspired within each arrondissement. No need for me to suggest Paris’s unique world status. You all know it before you ever visit. Is Paris still the world’s most romantic city? I still notice more couples openly kissing and touching as I walk its streets. Or, do we just notice such things because of this city’s reputation?
